Chili Dawg’s
Foods of Fire; A Product Review

During
the 18th Annual “Original” State of Nebraska Barbeque
Championship I found myself wondering amongst the tents searching
for a little nibble. I came across Chili Dawg’s and since
I like a little heat, thought I’d give it a try. I tried the
Hablemeno (pronounced; hab-la-meano-o) with a cracker. Then, because
it was so tasty, I tried the Hablemeno with a cracker and cream
cheese. And, because the second bite was even better than the first,
I went back and tried the Hablemeno with bread. There’s a
reason I kept going back for more and more. This stuff is good!
On the Chili Dawg’s website, www.chilidawgs.com, they tout the versatility of this very unique Habanero Pepper Spread, and it is not just a “HOT” jelly. I have used it on pork and it really brings out a great flavor that is unique without the adding of extra sauce. And I am not the only one; I have spoken to several people that are going to be using this as a glaze in competition for their ribs and pork this year.
Now, I know there are a lot of good products out there. There’s a reason I am starting my product reviews with Chili Dawg’s. After my grazing experience in Nebraska, I contacted Chili Dawg’s to see if they would be interested in donating some of their product for the KCBS Annual Convention held in Philadelphia. Not only were they interested, they were overly generous. The KCBS office received 30 Chili Dawg’s box displays for the banquet. Each display contained two jars of Hablemeno, a T-shirt and an American Flag. In fact, their display was the core piece for each table as we added the other donated items to this large presentation.
In my opinion, I think you should support those who support you. It helps when those people have a tasty product. Chili Dawg’s recently topped themselves with two new products. There is now a Strawberry (Strawbanero Pepper Spread) and a Raspberry (Razbanero Pepper Spread) to which I can only add – WOW!!
Like so many great products that we use in the Barbeque world, the founders of Chili Dawg’s started their business in their own kitchen. After much persuasion from friends, Tim and Shawn O’Dell put their product on the market. There are plans for a salsa to be introduced but logistics of quality tomatoes has slowed that process. The test kitchens are always evolving new products.
Don’t just take my word for how great their products are, they recently won the prestigious 2010 SCOVIE award. For more information, or to order one of these great products you can go to www.chilidawgs.com and click on the products tab and the shopping carts are waiting for you.
